About The Mountaineer
At the Mountaineer we try hard to stock unique, high quality gear for everyone. Serious mountaineers, expeditions, recreational hikers, big, small, short, or tall we have something for you. Please call 518-576-2281 if you don’t see what you need in our online store.
Social & Environmental Responsibility: The Mountaineer takes its role in the community seriously and strives to make a difference through volunteerism and annual benefit events such as the Adirondack International Mountaineering Festival and the Adirondack Backcountry Ski Festival. We are proud to support local schools, athletics, churches, fire departments and others throughout the year. In addition to providing financial support to worthy local and regional causes we take great pride in volunteering for community organizations such as the Keene and Keene Valley Fire Departments, the Adirondack Community Trust, New York Ski Educational Foundation, and local athletic teams.
June, 2005: Patagonia as part of its environmental benefits program, and Salomon, Montrail, and Smartwool as sponsors are supporting our Great Adirondack Trail Run, a benefit event for the Au Sable and Bouquet River Associations, to be held on June 25th. We hope to raise a substantial amount of money for these two grassroots local groups.
March, 2005: In addition to helping fill up the local inns and restaurants, the 3rd annual Adirondack Backcountry Ski Festival raised $1000 for the Adirondack Ski Touring Council and the New York Ski Educational Foundation’s nordic program.
January, 2005: The 9th annual Adirondack International Mountaineering Festival was a huge success, generating a record amount of money (approx. $6500) for some very worthy causes. Included in that figure were some efforts that deserve special mention. Roger Damon, Mark Richey, and Jim Shimberg refused compensation for their efforts and Doug Millen, Mark Richey and Doug Madera all made cash contributions to the Keene Central School. In addition the Keene Valley Fire Department raised over $1800 for its new ambulance fund from its “All You Can Eat” Spaghetti dinner.
The money went to the following organizations and individual this year:
Keene and Keene Valley Fire and Rescue Departments
Keene Central School
New York Ski Educational Foundation
Adirondack Mountain Club Trail Crew
Adirondack Community Trust
Keene Valley Neighborhood House
Kevin Broderick (battling cancer)
Little Peaks School
