After Running 100 Miles in the Prodigio 2 – Here are my thoughts

Running in the Adirondacks has a way of revealing what a shoe is really made of. Between slick roots, loose rock, and long climbs, there’s not much room for weaknesses—and the La Sportiva Prodigio 2 holds up impressively well in that environment. One of the more interesting things about the Prodigio 2 is its versatility. While it clearly excels on trails, it wouldn’t feel out of place on the road. That said, it’s in the woods where it really comes alive.
Right out of the box, the fit stands out. Compared to the first version, the Prodigio 2 feels noticeably roomier and slightly wider, but it still manages to wrap the foot in a secure, dialed-in way. That extra space pays off on longer runs, especially when your feet start to swell on extended descents. The updated lacing system is a clear improvement too—easier to fine-tune, more secure overall, and reliable even after hours of mud and uneven terrain.
Grip is solid across a range of conditions. The dual rubber outsole—stickier through the center with more durable rubber along the edges—handles wet terrain well and stays dependable on slick surfaces, even in less-than-ideal conditions. Descending, in particular, feels controlled and stable.
Underfoot, the Prodigio 2 delivers one of its strongest performances. The nitrogen-infused, supercritical foam strikes a really nice balance between cushioning and responsiveness. It’s protective enough for long days, absorbing impact from rocks and hard-packed trails, but still lively. The rebound stands out—it feels energetic and efficient, helping you settle into a rhythm and maintain it. On climbs especially, the shoe feels powerful, giving a bit of return with each step rather than just soaking up effort.
There’s also a noticeable structure to the ride. The center of the shoe feels slightly firmer and more stable, while the edges are a bit more forgiving, which works well on uneven ground. Combined with the relatively light weight (around 9.3 oz) and a moderate 6 mm drop, it keeps the shoe feeling agile without sacrificing protection.
The upper has also been refined in subtle but important ways. The ankle collar no longer has that awkward pressure point some people noticed in the first version. Instead, it feels smooth and comfortable, whether you’re out for a shorter run or spending hours on your feet. The overall fit balances comfort and precision nicely.
The heel cup is another area where this version takes a step forward. It locks the foot in more effectively than before, adding stability without feeling restrictive. On technical terrain—whether it’s wet roots, loose scree, or steep downhills—that added security translates into confidence. There’s no slipping around in the back, just a consistent, planted feel.
Overall, the La Sportiva Prodigio 2 feels like a confident evolution—thoughtful, well-executed, and more dialed-in. It’s lighter, more comfortable, and more refined, with a ride that balances cushioning and responsiveness in a way that just feels fun to move in. Whether you’re cruising mellow forest paths, tackling steep Adirondack climbs, or mixing running with hiking, it delivers a reliable, enjoyable experience that encourages you to keep going just a little further.
