The 235-mile Trans Adirondack Route pieces together hiking trails, abandoned pathways, snowmobile trails, and roads to travel from near the Canadian border to Fulton County near Gloversville, New York. During its course the route crosses five wilderness areas, visits fifty bodies of water, climbs three summits, and runs through three settlements. To guide backpackers along, veteran hiker Erik Schlimmer breaks this wild route into seven sections ranging from 25 to 45 miles in length. Sections on lightweight backpacking, weather, regulations, history, and flora and fauna are discussed beyond the meat-and-potatoes route descriptions.
