Brawny, yet agile. Obese, yet svelte. Floatable, yet carvable. A list of ridiculous ironies and superlatives could go on and on, but one thing is for certain: The Voilé V8 is the ultimate fun hog.
I have two pairs of V8s, one with beef bindings for resort/side-country use, and one with light bindings and tip-fix skins as a powder touring setup. The sky shine in both roles, keeping me afloat and off the rocks in thin cover, and providing confidence in chunk and mank. The short running length and aggressive side cut make them dance through tight trees like a much shorter ski, but they are stable enough to rail groomers once leaned over and the edge engages. They are not my pick for dicey firm, steep chutes due to the fact that they take some pressure to keep the edges locked in, but that’s really the only place they aren’t a blast. Feel free to size up if you’re in doubt, they are not overly stiff and have a lot of rocker, so they ski pretty short.
