Advanced Clinic - Steep, Thin & Mixed with Marcus Garcia presented by LOWA & Vitti Mountain Guides

(8 participants $195): 8:30AM-3PM meet at Mountainfest Vendor Village

As climbers continue to seek out new routes in challenging conditions, the lines of what is considered rock or ice climbing begin to blur.  No longer limited by cold hands and feet on stone, and no longer constrained by the notion that the pick of an ice tool or point of a crampon need to be placed in frozen water.  Modern climbers adapt technique based on what lays ahead.  Join LOWA athlete Marcus Garcia and Vitti Mountain Guides for a clinic that’s sure to open your eyes and challenge your body on incredibly intricate and fun climbing.  Marcus and guides will demonstrate and explain mixed climbing techniques, but this is an advanced clinic.  Participants who already have the skills and fitness to top-rope intermediate to steep ice will get the most out of this session.

Intro to Leading Ice presented by CAMP & Adirondack Rock and River

(6 participants $195): 8:30AM-3PM meet at Mountainfest Vendor Village

Getting on the sharp end of the rope is serious business and more complicated than just firing in some ice screws as you climb.  This clinic will focus on reading ice, organizing gear, finding best possible ice screw placements and building anchors.  Participants will have the opportunity to identify and manage the unique risks of leading ice climbs.  Leading ice climbs is intimidating, this clinic will help you prepare for the next step.  For risk management reasons, climbers will have a top-rope belay while practicing “mock leads” during this clinic.
